   Corrosion inhibition of zinc in hydrochloric acid using some antibiotic drugs

چکیده    The effect of some antibiotic drugs,namely,paromomycin,streptomycin and spectinomycin on the corrosion behavior of zinc in 1.0mhcl solutions was investigated using potentiodynamic polarization,electrochemical impedance (eis) and weight loss techniques. the percentage inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increasing drug concentration and with decreasing temperature. potentiodynamic polarization curves proved that the studied antibiotic compounds acted as mixed type inhibitors. the inhibiting effect of these compounds was interpreted in view of its horizontal adsorption on the zn surface through the active centers contained in their structure. the adsorption process obeys temkin isotherm. some activated thermodynamic parameters were calculated and interpreted. all eis curves exhibitone capacitive loop indicating the corrosion process is controlled by charge transfer process.
