Earth,stone and wood in the vernacular architecture of the Aures and Ziban: Materials of complementary use

If the architecture takes its forms from cultural traditions,the art of building impacts its textures and colours. the art of building means that the material and techniques of construction are never neutral. a decisive influence is valid for the vernacular architecture evolving in the geographical and cultural areas of aures and ziban. in the context of this contribution,we are compelled to restrict our survey to houses built with local earth,stone and wood .we will study the envelope and the structure of some houses in general,and the technical variations in these geomorphological areas in the eastern algeria,in specific. the results of this comparative analysis revealed that in wall structures the stone is used variably .for instance,it is used in form of shuttering in aures region while as a preventive structure for basement in ziban. in addition the wood is distinguished by its specific variable uses and ends depending on the environment whether it is in mountain or in semi-desert area. used as a bed of bough either single or multiple it aimed at alternating the foundation of the earth or separating the stones providing an image of a belt around the walls. thus,it is possible to wonder whether its roles has to reinforce the walls as chaining or /and as preventive cautions against the capillary rises. the purpose of this survey is twofold: first producing an exhaustive knowledge through the constitution of a documentary detailed corpus about this architecture in order to guarantee its preservation and valorization in the framework of its innovation. second,highlighting if these three materials have been used in a complementary or accessory manner.
