تقابل فرد و جامعه: رد پای ژان ژاک روسو در رمان بیگانه آلبر کامو

آلبر کامو، رمان بیگانه را در سال 1942 به‌‌‌چاپ رسانید. بیشتر منتقدان ادبی، این رمان را نمایش ادبی فلسفه آبسورد می‌دانند که پیش از آن در رساله فلسفی اسطوره سیزیف عرضه شده بود، اما بعدها و برای چاپ ترجمه انگلیسی این رمان، نویسنده مقدمه‌ای نوشت و در آن  به‌پاره‌ای شبهات در باره شخصیت داستان پاسخ گفت. اهمیت این مقدمه در آن است که در می‌یابیم که هسته اصلی رمان را تقابل میان فرد و اجتماع شکل می‌دهد. این موضوع در نوشته‌های متفکران  پیش از کامو هم به‌چشم می‌خورد. شاید بارزترین و پر معناترین کوشش برای برجسته‌سازی این واقعیت را در اندیشه ژان ژاک روسو بیابیم که انسان طبیعی را در تقابل با جامعه متمدن اخلاقی قرار می‌دهد. مقاله حاضر بر آن است تا نشان دهد که میان انسان طبیعی روسو و شخصیت اصلی رمان بیگانه، شباهت‌های بسیاری وجود دارد، هرچند کامو هرگز اشاره‌ای به‌این شباهت‌ها و یا تاثیرات نکرده است، اما می‌توان در رمان او حضور فیلسوف سده 18 فرانسه را آشکارا دریافت.

The confrontation of the Individual and the society: JeanJaques Rousseau traced in Albert Camus’ The stranger

Since its publishing in 1942, the majority of critics have interpreted The Stranger by Albert Camus to be the manifestation of the Absurd philosophy, which was previously introduced in The Myth of Sisyphus. However, Camus later answered the disambiguation concerning the hero of his book in an introduction to this novel’s English translation. The importance of this introduction lies with the fact it gives us the first notion of how the novel centers on the confrontation of the individual and the society. This theme is also present in the previous works of writers and intellects. More specifically, it is thoroughly investigated in the works of Jean Jaques Rousseau, where he challenges The Human in the State of Nature against the civil and moral society. In this article, we demonstrate how The Stranger’s hero, Meursault, is similar to Rousseau’s Human in the State of Nature, and although never directly mentioned by Camus, how the 18thcentury philosopher can be traced in the novel.
