Iranian Lsi and Non-Lsi Medical Research Articles in English: A Comparative Esp/Eap Move Analysis

During recent decades publishing articles in academicjo urnals has become a worldwide urge for all members ofacademia. there is, however, a widespread belief according towhich more value is given to the articles published ininternationally-recognized, high standard journals. an issueraised in this regard is whether the articles published in highlyprestigious journals are remarkably different from thosepublished in other journals as far as their contents andrhetorical styles are concerned. taking the organization ofinformation/moves into account, the present study seeks theprobable differences existing between the two groups of 32research articles (ras) randomly selected from among iranianlsi and non-l si medical jo urnals in english, published betweenjanuary 2008 and february 200,;- , through analyzing theintroduction and discussion sections of these articles based onthe model presented by nwogu ( 1997). the results of mannwhittneyu and correlational tests revealed that moves andsub-moves have been exploited with quite similar frequenciesin the two sets of the articles. the frequent use of moves/submovesin the sections not commonly stated in the literature, useof meta-d iscourse markers in the corpus, some markedimplications of the findings of esp genre analysis of ras aswell as some other findings have also been discussed
