   Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Symptoms and their Association with Trichotilomania, Tic and Body Dysmorphic Disorders

چکیده    Background: obsessive-compulsive disorder (ocd) symptomsand the related disorders are subs umed under chronicpsychiatric disorders which are of psychosocial and therapeuticimportance. in most studies, the mean age of onset of significantocd symptoms is adolescence per iod. the aim of this studywas to eva luate ocd symptoms, tic disorder, body dysmorphicdisorder (bod) and trichotilomania among middleschoo l students in shiraz, iran.method: from the four educational distr ict of shiraz, south ofiran, 1682 middle schoo l students, aged 14-16 yrs-old , .wereselected using a cluster random sampling. persian sta ndardizedmoudse ly obsessive-compulsive inventory was used toassess obsessional symptoms. for evaluating bod, tic disorde rand tric hoti lomania symptoms, a semi-structured interv iewwas done accord ing to diagnostic and stat istica l manual-ivtr(dsm- iv-tr) criteria.results: students with more obse ssio nal symptoms weremost ly girls and showed more pos itive family history. theywere more like ly from low soc ioeco nomic class, and theirave rage sc hool grades were lower. they also showed highassociation with bod and tic disorders.conclusion: this study confirmed body dysrno rphic and ticdisorders to be more prevalent in individuals with obsessivecompulsivedisorder symptoms. girls, especially those fromlower socioeco nomic class, demonstrated increasing obsessionalsymptoms, obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms werefound to affect school performance so its early diagnosis andmanagement should be considered as a mental health priority.
