Acute ischemic stroke (ais) is one of the major causes of mortality and disability globally. up to the presenttime, thrombolysis with intravenous (iv) recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtpa) is the onlyfda-approved pharmacological treatment for ais. moreover; several randomized clinical trials haveendorsed the benefits of endovascular treatment (evt) with stent retrievers in strokes with large vesselocclusion by improving the overall functional outcome and reducing mortality. the benefits of iv rtpaand evt in ais are highly time-dependent and the american stroke association guidelines recommendtreating the patients with ais as quickly as possible.
