چکیده
|
The anti-emetic effect of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of mentha xpiperitaaerial parts was studied in young chickens. emesis was induced using coppersulfate (60 mg/kg, orally) and ipecac (600 mg/kg, orally). the aqueous extract (40-100 mg/kg, i.p.) and the ethanolic extract (320-800 mg/kg, i.p.) significantlyprevented the emesis induced by copper sulfate and ipecac. preliminary testsindicated that the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of m. xpiperita aerial partscomprised tannins. saponins were found only in the ethanolic extract. the ld50 valuesof the aqueous and ethanolic extracts (i.p.) were 673.7 mg/kg and 1653.2 mg/kg inthe chickens, respectively. these results indicate that the extracts of m. xpiperitaaerial parts have an anti-emetic activity in young chickens with peripheral and centralmechanisms.
