Effect of Homan Sperm MTTViability Test on Ootcome of Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Introduction: the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of humansperm mit viability assay on outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection.mit is a tetrazolium salt, routinely used for cell proliferation and cytotoxicityassays.material and methods: 50iji of processed semen was treated with mitsolution, while the remaining used as the control. meanwhile, 109 donatedhuman oocytes (metaphase ii) obtained from 12 patients were divided intotwo groups. fifty five oocytes were injected using mit positive sperms,while 54 oocytes were injected with sperms from the control group. then theinjected oocytes were cultured and observed at 18, 42, 66, 90, and 114hours pos- ics. finally, the fertilization and embryo development rates werecompared in both groups.results: no significant differences were observed between fertilization andembryo development rates in the mit and control groups.conclusion: after approving that the mit is not cytotoxic or teratogeniceffects, the sperm mit viability assay may be useful for icsi in patients withabsolute or severe asthenospermia or in patients with highly deformedsperm tails.
