چکیده    Educational institutions including vocational colleges are creating and handling more and more electronic records particularly students’ records. records are commonly handled by either a lecturer or an administrator with the responsibility of inputting data into a system known as student information system (sis). these individuals are not trained in records management while the sis was designed for only storing the data without taking into consideration the records management principles. records management concerns with the entire lifecycle of records from creation to disposal. handing electronic records in the vocational colleges are also not guided by any framework which should incorporate guideline issued by the national archive of malaysia. this study seeks to propose a framework for managing students’ electronic records of vocational colleges of malacca and negeri sembilan zone. survey employing questionnaire was used for collecting data involving 117 respondents from 9 colleges. only 73% of the questionnaires were returned. the data was analysed using spss version 20.0 involving three tests such as frequency, pearson chi-square, spearman’s rank and kendall’s correlation. the students’ electronic records management initiative at vocational collages of malacca and negeri sembilan zone requires and integrated approach involving many parties and should be guided by a framework to enable the initiative be implemented effectively and efficiently.
