Childhood Hypothyroidism in Iraq: A Retrospective study

Hypothyroidism is one of the most fre - quently encountered endocrine diseasesin childhood and the importanceof its early diagnosis and adequatetreatment prevents developmental retardationand oth er sequelae of the condition.materials and methods: over a ten year period,45 children under 12 years with hypothyroidismwere encountered an endocrine and diabetesclinic for children in al-kadhymia teachingin iraq, is not available, the first observ ati on tobe made is that this is not a rare di sease in thiscountry. a genetic explanation is suggested bythe involvement of multiple siblings and thehigh ratio of cons angu inity in the population.
