   On the Dependence of Soot Formation and Combustion on Swirling Combustion Furnaces: Measurement and Simulation

چکیده    Soot concentration distribuiion is investigated both numerically and erperimentallyin methane-air diffu8ion flame. the experimental work is conducted with acylindrical swirl stabilized combustor. filter paper technique is 'used to measuresoot volume fraction inside the combustor. the numerical simulaiioti is basedon the solution of the fully- coupled conseruaium equations for swirling iurouletiiflow, chemical species kinetic modeling, fuel combustion and soot formationand oxidation. the soot particle number density and the mass density basedon the acetylene concentrations are used to model the soot emission in confinedswirling turbulent diji'usion flame. the comparison between predictions andmeasurement results over a range of different swirl numbers shows goodagreement. the results reveal the significant influence of swirl intensity oncombustion characteristics and soot formation in diffusion flames, an increasein swirl number enhances the mixinq rate, peak temperature, and soot volumefraction inside the flame zone. the locations to give the maximum temperatureand soot concentration shift to backward (close to combustor inlet) with increasein swirl number.
