تبلیغ دینی در مسیحیت: بررسی فعالیت‌های پاپ گِرِگوری

موضوع تبلیغ دینی از آغاز در سنت مسیحی اهمیت فراوان داشته است. این امر در فعالیت‌های عیسی مسیح و یاران نزدیکش به روشنی مشهود بوده است. در اثر اقدامات رسولان نخستین و جانشینان آنها گرایش به مسیحیت روز به‌ روز بیشتر شد تا این‌که در اوایل قرن چهارم مسیحیت دین رسمی امپراتوری روم شد، همزمان گرایش‌های رهبانی نیز در مسیحیت شکل گرفت. بندیکت قدیس (د ح 547م)، از شخصیت‌های تاثیرگذار رهبانیت مسیحی بود، که با تاسیس طریقه‌ای رهبانی در رشد و تکامل  معنویت مسیحی تاثیر مهمی بر جای نهاد. گِرِگوری کبیر از پیروان سنت بندیکت بود که به مقام پاپی رسید و در گسترش مسیحیت نقشی چشمگیر داشت. او در سال 597م آوگوستین کانتربری را به همراه چهل تن از راهبان صومعۀ اندوری قدیس رهسپار بریتانیا کرد. این هیئت با تلفیق قواعد رهبانی با تعالیم کلیسا توانستند به توفیق چشمگیری برسند.

Christian Missionary: A Study of Pope Gregory’s Mission

Missionary has been an important element from the very beginning of Christian History, according to New Testament’s narrations, it began with the activities of Jesus and his disciples. As a result of the early Apostles’ activities Christianity gradually became more and more popular, and finally, in fourth century, became the formal religion of the Roman Empire. At the same time, monasticism developed among Christian community. Saint Benedict (d c 547) was one the important figures in Christian monasticism and his mystical order practice an influential effect in the growth of Christian spirituality. Gregory, a follower of Benedictine tradition, was appointed as a Pope and had a crucial influence on the spread of Christianity. In 597 C.E. he sent Augustine of Canterbury along with forty monks of Saint Andrew’s monastery to the Britain. By combination of monastic rules with the Church teachings they succeeded to spread Christianity among the British pagans.
