The primary goal of in-situ load testing is to evaluate the safety and performance of a structural system under particular loading conditions. advancements in building techniques, analytical tools, and monitoring instruments are prompting the evaluation of the appropriate loading value, loading process, and examination criteria. the procedure for testing reinforced concrete (rc) structures on-site, as outlined in the aci building code, involves conducting a 24-h load test and applying specific evaluation criteria. this article detailed a retrofitting project for an rc slab-beams system by utilizing carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (cfrp) sheets to strengthen the structure following a fire incident. the rc structure showed indicators of deterioration, including deflections, concrete cracking, and concrete spalling in some zones. whereas, a detailed presentation of the strengthening procedure as well as its evaluation, rationale for the loading procedure, instrumentation needs, assessment criteria, and outcomes of the field testing. the study concentrated on assessing the structure of the rc slab-beam system with widespread cracking in both the positive and negative moment areas. the finite element model was created and examined to help with the load test design, and it confirmed the field findings considerably. the proposed finite element (fe) model demonstrated a reduced estimation of net deflection value in comparison to the corresponding actual values. it maintained a highly acceptable mean value of 0.843 and a small deviation limit of 6.8%. © the author(s), under exclusive licence to the iran university of science and technology 2024.
