Abstract    safety is a key concern in nuclear energy, especially regarding the potential release of radioactive materials during normal operation or accidents. accurately modeling their atmospheric dispersion is essential for both site selection and minimizing the impact of potential releases through effective emergency response. this modeling depends on input data such as the amount and properties of the released material, weather conditions, and local topography. in this study, the irpuff code was developed using the puff method to simulate the atmospheric diffusion of radioactive materials. the workflow for data extraction and preparation for regional simulations is also outlined. for validation, the dispersion of radionuclides during the fukushima accident was simulated, and the results were compared with those from standard models such as calpuff and hysplit, as well as actual environmental monitoring data. the comparison shows that irpuff reliably models the environmental release and dispersion of radioactive materials. its results closely match both conventional codes and observed data from various japanese cities, demonstrating its potential for nuclear safety assessments.
