translation of philosophical terms: strategies used by male and female translators

This research sought to identify the translation strategies employed by male and female translators for the rendition of philosophical terms in two persian translations of explaining post-modernism from skepticism to socialism from rousseau to foucault, based on vinay and darbelnet’s model. to achieve this objective, a mixed-methods design was used. the corpus of the study consisted of 100 pages from the english book along with their persian translations by poursafir, zohrabi, and ehsani. the results obtained from the statistical analysis of the elicited data showed that zohrabi and ehsani have employed literal translation, translation by paraphrase, content transposition, form transposition, borrowing, and deletion strategies in translating philosophical terms into persian. the most and the least frequent strategy applied by them were literal translation and deletion, respectively. the results also revealed that poursafir has benefited from literal translation, translation by paraphrase, content transposition, form transposition, and borrowing strategies in his translation. the most and the least frequent strategy used by him were literal translation and borrowing, respectively. as for gender, while there were minor alterations between the frequencies of different strategies used by male and female translators, the differences were not significant. the findings of this study provide operational directions for future translators of philosophical works.

ترجمه اصطلاحات فلسفی: راهبردهای مورد استفاده مترجمان مرد و زن

این پژوهش به دنبال شناسایی راهبردهای ترجمه ای است که مترجمان زن و مرد برای بازخوانی اصطلاحات فلسفی در دو ترجمه فارسی کتاب تبیین پست مدرنیسم از شک گرایی تا سوسیالیسم از روسو تا فوکو بر اساس مدل وینی و داربلنت به کار گرفته اند. برای دستیابی به این هدف، از طرح ترکیبی استفاده شد. مجموعه پژوهش شامل 100 صفحه از کتاب انگلیسی به همراه ترجمه های فارسی آن توسط پورسفیر، ظهرابی و احسانی است. نتایج به‌دست‌آمده از تحلیل آماری داده‌ها نشان داد که ظهرابی و احسانی در ترجمه اصطلاحات فلسفی به فارسی از راهبردهای ترجمه تحت اللفظی، ترجمه به‌واسطه، جاب‌جایی محتوا، جابجایی صورت، وام‌گیری و حذف استفاده کرده‌اند. بیشترین و کمترین فراوانی استراتژی اعمال شده توسط آنها به ترتیب ترجمه تحت اللفظی و حذف بود. همچنین نتایج نشان داد که پورسفیر در ترجمه خود از ترجمه تحت اللفظی، ترجمه به نقل، انتقال محتوا، جابجایی فرم و راهبردهای وام گیری بهره برده است. بیشترین و کم‌تکرارترین راهبرد مورد استفاده او به ترتیب ترجمه تحت اللفظی و امانت‌گیری بود. در مورد جنسیت، در حالی که تغییرات جزئی بین فراوانی راهبردهای مختلف مورد استفاده توسط مترجمان زن و مرد وجود داشت، این تفاوت ها معنی دار نبود. یافته های این پژوهش جهت گیری هایی عملیاتی را برای مترجمان آتی آثار فلسفی فراهم می کند.
