For large and complex reacting systems, computational efficiency becomes a criticalissue in process simulation, optimization and model-based control. mechanism simplification isoften a necessity to improve computational speed. wepresent a novel approach to simplification ofreaction networks that formulates the model reduction problem as an optimization problem andsolves it using genetic algorithm (ga).the aim of simplification kinetics modeling is to derive thesimplest reaction system, which retains the essential features ofthe full system. numerical resultsfor h2/02 combustion reaction mechanism illustrate the potential andproficiency ofthis approach.
