چکیده    Introduction: this study was done to compare the analgesiceffects of “magnesium plus lidocaine,” “paracetamol pluslidocaine,” and “placebo plus lidocaine” on block characteristicsfor intravenous regional anesthesia (ivra) in patients undergoingupper extremity orthopedic surgery.methods: in a double-blind, placebo-controlled randomizedclinical trial, 90 patients were selected and entered randomly intothree study groups after applying the inclusion and exclusioncriteria. time to start of the sensory and motor block weremeasured separately and also the duration of these two block typeswere measured. post-op pain assessment was measured using anumeric rating scale. venous samples were checked and comparedregarding blood gas and ph measurements.results: the time from drug injection to sensory block onset wasthe shortest in the magnesium plus lidocaine group; the time fromdrug injection to the time of motor block onset was the shortestin the lidocaine plus magnesium group; the duration of the motorblock was the longest in the lidocaine plus magnesium group.discussion: addition of magnesium lidocaine in patientsundergoing upper extremity orthopedic operations using ivradecreases significantly the time gap between drug administrationand the start of the block; also, this drug combination increasesthe ivra block length, while paracetamol does not have such asignificant effect.
