نحوه حصول ارتباط نفس انسانی با بدن و نحوه فعالیت نفس انسانی در بدن، از نظر ابن سینا و آکوئیناس

تامل در اظهارات ابن سینا و آکوئیناس تردید در باب تقابل نظر ایشان در مورد نحوه حصول ارتباط نفس انسانی با بدن را برطرف می‌سازد. دو نظریه به ظاهر مقابل که در یک طرف آن ابن سینا با این اعتقاد که نفس انسانی به منظور ارتباط با بدن نیازمند واسطه است و در سوی دیگر آکوئیناس که معتقد است نفس بدون نیاز به واسطه با بدن متحد می‌شود. رفع تعارض ظاهری میان دو نظریه نگرشی تحلیلی را می‌طلبد که در نتیجه آن روشن می‌شود که هریک از دو فیلسوف هنگام بررسی ارتباط نفس با انسانی با بدن دو مقام را مدنظر دارند. مقام اول مرحله‌ای است که نفس به عنوان صورت با بدن مرتبط می‌شود و مقام دوم مرحله‌ای که آغاز فعالیت نفس انسانی در بدن است و حاصل تحلیل این است که دو نظریه نه تنها متناقض نیستند بلکه در راستای یکدیگرند و چنانچه اختلافی در مساله نحوه حصول ارتباط نفس انسانی با بدن مشاهده می‌شود ناشی از نگرش ایشان به مساله «اتحاد» است، چنانکه ابن سینا به دنبال عدم پذیرش اتحاد، ارتباط نفس انسانی با بدن را نوعی ارتباط تدبیری می‌نامد حال آن که آکوئیناس با پذیرش اتحاد، رابطه نفس انسانی با بدن را از نوع اتحاد می‌بیند، با این وصف هر دو فیلسوف نفس را نیازمند ارتباط با بدن می‌دانند. همچنین در مورد نحوه فعالیت نفس انسانی در بدن هر دو فیلسوف معتقدند نفس به منظور انجام فعالیت خویش در بدن نیازمند واسطه‌ای است که به اصطلاح ابن سینا روح بُخاری و به اصطلاح آکوئیناس روح جسمانی یا روح حیاتی نام دارد.
