دولت بایدن انگیزه‌هایی برای بهبود روابط ایران و آمریکا و بازگرداندن توافق هسته‌ای ایران دارد. بایدن اصرار دارد که تهران به تعهدات برجامی خود برگردد؛ این در حالی است که مقامات ایران اذعان دارند که قبل از هر اقدامی از سوی تهران، واشنگتن باید در عمل همه تحریم‌ها را لغو کند. بدین ترتیب، سوال اصلی پژوهش این است که دولت بایدن نسبت به مساله هسته‌ای ایران چه رویکردی را اتخاذ کرده است؟ فرضیه مقاله این است که سیاست بایدن در قبال برنامه صلح‌آمیز هسته‌ای ایران، بهره‌گیری از قدرت هوشمند در قالب مذاکره و فشار است؛ به گونه‌ای که واشنگتن ضمن قانع کردن تهران برای بازگشت به برجام، در راستای اعمال فشار بر ایران از طریق ایجاد محدودیت برای برنامه هسته‌ای و قدرت موشکی و منطقه‌ای این کشور و همچنین تمدید و یا راه‌اندازی تحریم‌های جدید حقوق بشری گام بر می‌دارد که این امر می‌تواند به تضعیف و انزوای منطقه‌ای تهران در خاورمیانه منجر شود. یافته‌های پژوهش نشان می‌دهد؛ دولت بایدن در قبال پرونده هسته‌ای ایران دیپلماسی سخت و نرم را در پیش گرفته است؛ به گونه‌ای که واشنگتن ضمن متقاعد کردن تهران برای بازگشت به برجام، همزمان در تلاش برای تهدید جلوه دادن برنامه صلح‌آمیز هسته‌ای ایران و ایجاد محدودیت در آن از طریق روش‌های تحریم و اجماع‌سازی جهانی علیه ایران برآمده است. برای تحلیل داده‌ها از روش تحلیلِ کیفی استفاده شده است.
