حقوق حیوانات و (( استعداد درک درد و رنج )) : بررسی انتقادی دیدگاه پیتر سینگر

یکی از مهمترین دلایل مدافعان حق حیات حیوانات و لزوم تغییر رفتار نامناسب با آنان، «استعداد درک درد و رنج» در حیوانات است. پیتر سینگر از مدافعان اصلی این استدلال و با تاکید بر لزوم توجه برابر به حیوان با انسان، هرگونه استفاده از حیوان اعم از خوردن گوشت، پژوهش آزمایشگاهی، دامداری صنعتی را به چالش می‌کشد. او با انکار برتری انسان بر حیوان، تمام بهره‌وری‌ها از حیوان را به لحاظ اخلاقی نادرست دانسته و با نقد نگاه ادیان در این باره آن را زمینه‌ساز تضییع حقوق حیوانات معرفی می‌کند. در این مقاله ضمن بررسی و نقد این استدلال و با تاکید بر لزوم رعایت حریم حیوانات و مسوولیت انسان در قبال آنها بیان می‌گردد که با توجه به جایگاه ویژه انسان در عالم هستی و تفاوتهای وجودی او با حیوانات، استفاده هدفمند و مسوولانه او از حیوان از نظر اخلاقی مجاز است که نگاهی بر آموزه‌های ادیان نیز موید آن می‌باشد. توجه به رابطه درد و رنج با علم و آگاهی، میزان ارزش انسان، ملاک یکسان جنین و حیوان، تناقض در ادعا نیز از جمله نقدهایی است که می‌توان به سینگر وارد کرد.

Considering the relationship between suffering and science and consciousness, the value of human beings, the same criterion of fetus and animal, and the contradiction in the claim are among the criticisms that can be leveled at Singer.
