چکیده

Background: insulin-like growth factor-1 (igf-1) can influence fibroblast functioning, with inhibition of collagenases and induction of collagen expression. igf-1 may have a role in delaying the accumulation of skin wrinkles. objective: to evaluate the relation between serum igf-1 levels and facial ageing. patients and methods: this study included 63 healthy volunteers. facial ageing assessment and descriptive scale for evaluation of skin photodamage were performed for all patients. the sera levels of igf-1 and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 were estimated using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. results: serum levels of igf-1 decreased with increasing facial ageing stage and photoaging grading. serum level of igf-1 was significantly higher in patients with negative history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and excessive sun exposure. conclusion: serum level of igf-1 decreased with increasing chronological ageing and with increasing facial ageing and photoaging. igf-1 may be considered as an important factor in prevention of facial ageing.
