قَلیان و قلیان کَشی و نقش آن در تمایزات اجتماعی ایران در عصر ناصرالدین‌شاه قاجار

قلیان کَشی یکی از عادات و تفریحات ایرانیان در روزگار قاجار بود که چون همۀ اقشار اجتماعی به آن روی آورده بودند، تمایزات بسیاری را در خود نهفته داشت. بنابراین پژوهشگر با روش مقایسه ای مبتنی بر داده های کتابخانه ای و به‌ویژه سفرنامه‌ها و براساس مفهوم «تمایز اجتماعی» ابداعیِ پیر بوردیو، در پی یافتن پاسخی برای این سوال است که «قلیان به عنوان یک کالای مصرفی و قلیان کَشی به عنوان بخشی از سبک زندگی ایرانیان» چه نقشی در حفظ و بازتاب تمایزات میان اقشار اجتماعی در عصر ناصرالدین شاه قاجار داشته است؟ یافته های این پژوهش نشان می دهد که قلیان در عصر قاجار یک کالای مصرفی و قلیان‌کَشی نیز برای گذراندن اوقات فراغت همۀ اقشار جامعه رواج داشته، اما قشرهای بالای جامعه، هم با استفاده از قلیان های تزئینی و گران بها مبتنی بر سلیقۀ زیباشناختی خود تشخّص و تمایز خود را نسبت به دیگر اقشار نشان می دادند و هم با در اختیار گرفتن قلیان چی های مبادی آداب و رعایت آداب و رسوم قلیان کَشی، در پی آن بودند که سلسله‌مراتب اجتماعی خود را حفظ کنند؛ درحالی که اقشار پایین جامعه تنها برای برطرف کردن نیاز خود همچون رفع خستگی از کار روزانه، به کشیدن قلیان می پرداختند.

The Hookah, Smoking Hookah, and Its Role on Social Distinctions of the Nasser AlDin Shah Qajar Era

Hookah smoking was one of Iranians’ habits and entertainment in the Qajar period, which, because all classes had resorted to it, had many differences. Therefore the researcher uses a descriptiveanalytical method based on library data, especially travelogues. According to Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of social distinction seeks to find an answer to this question: hookah as a consumer good and smoking hookah as part of the Iranian way of life, what role does it play in maintaining and reflecting the distinctions between the social classes of the Qajar period? The findings of this study show that although hookah was a consumer product in the Qajar era. Moreover, smoking hookah was a way to spend leisure time in all classes. However, the upper classes of society, using beautiful, decorative, and precious hookahsbased on aesthetic taste showed their distinction from other classes. They took the hookah keepers of etiquette principles and, by preserving the customs of smoking hookah, sought to maintain their social and class hierarchy. In contrast, lowers classes smoked hookah only for their refreshment.
