SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF A NOVEL SERIES OF 2-(4-CHLORO-3-METHYLPHENOXY)ACETYL AMINO ACIDS AND PEPTIDES

A series of new 2-(4-chloro-3-methylphenoxy)acetyl amino acids and peptides have been synthesized by coupling the 2-(4-chloro-3-methylphenoxy)acetic acid with amino acid methyl esters/peptides using dccas coupling agent and nmm as base. the structures were elucidated by elemental analysis, ir, 1h nmr,13c nmr and ms spectral data. the newly synthesized compounds were also evaluated for antibacterialand antifungal activities. compounds 3, 4 and 6 were found to exhibit potent antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa, gram positive bacteria staphylococcus aureus andcompounds 8, 10 and 11 were found to be potent antifungal agents against pathogenic candida albicans.
