Social-cultural factors in forming district in iranian-islamic cityand it’s functionsabbas bahri moqaddam 1ph.d, department of history & civilization of islamic nations,science and research branch, islamic azad university, tehran,iranshahram yousefifarassociated professor, institute for humanities and cultural studiesdepartment of history, tehran, irandistrict as a social colony was a place for civilians to live. this socialunit that used to be the base of iranian-muslim societies presented thestructure of ancient cities in a different form. there have beenpolitical-administrative, economic and social-cultural factors thatmade grow and from a district in a city. obviously, the social andcultural factors are important because of the direct contact with socialfeatures and cultural-flourishing of a district. a district developed inthe iranian-islamic city, functioning in that structure. it could bestudied in two aforementioned aspects. historical study and analysingof forming the district and its function could be useful in studyingurban relations of iran in islamic period. this article by a quickreview of the trend of emergence of a district in iranian-islamic cityand comparing that with barzan in ancient iran, has studied the mainfactors and social and cultural functions of the district.keywords: district, barzan, iranian-islamic city, factors of risingthe district, functions of the district1. email (corresponding author): bahrimoqaddam@gmail.com
