Effect of Chronic Administration of Opioids (Morphine) on Growth and Intestinal Mucosa in Mouse Strain Balb/c

Apart from the nervous system, the digestive systemhas the maximum opioids receptors which it indicate importanceof the opioids in this system. it seems that morphine and other opiods compound have major harmful effects on intestinal tissue. purpose of this study is , toexamine of the long-termed use of the morphine on growthand histomorphological structure of digestive system inmices train bulb/ c. some mice were selected from threeage groups (premature. mature and trom premature to fullmatu re). one hundr ed fi fly miee (at the age of 21 days )were divided to 12 groups randomly, groups consisted orsix tes t groups (20 mice in each group), three controlgroups (5 mice ill each group) and three sham groups (5mice ill eac h gro up) . control group, we re maintain ed onstock dieted of tap water while sham groups dieted with tapwater and sugar (5mg/ml). test groups also used tap water.sugar and two different dosages of morphine (0.0 lmg/mlor (l. lrng/rnl ). our study showed that in all tests groups. thechronic adrninistranon of escalating doses of the morphinecaused decrease of the weight of nuce. in addition, the long-te rrn ed use of mor phine ca used histological changes insmall intestin e and colon in all the groups of age. invasionof mononuclear cell (especially lymphocyte) to mucosawas the most important histological chan ge . in addition,villous height and inten sit y also decreased this studysuggested that the chronic consumption of opioids cause spathological change in gasterointestinal system.
