گلستان کاغذ: نگاهی دوباره به تاریخ و ساخت کاغذ‌های ابری

با وجود پژوهش‌های فراوان دربارهٔ کتاب‌آرایی ایرانی، همچنان جنبه‌‌هایی از آن در آغاز راه تحقیق قرار دارد. ساخت کاغذ‌های رنگی، چه رنگ در بافت کاغذ باشد و چه روی کاغذ، از جمله هنر‌هایی است که تاریخ و شیوهٔ ساخت آن هنوز ابهامات بسیار دارد. کاغذ ابری که اولین تجربه‌‌های آن به پیش از سدهٔ نهم باز می‌گردد در سدهٔ نهم رواج یافت و در سده‌‌های بعد سبک‌ها و شیوه‌‌های ساخت متفاوت یافت. پژوهش حاضر، با نگاهی به تاریخ استفاده از کاغذ‌های رنگی و خصوصاً کاغذ‌های وارداتی از چین در سدهٔ نهم، نشان می‌دهد که استفاده از کاغذ رنگی نه‌تنها برای نسخه‌های هنری و نفیس سدهٔ دهم به‌کار می‌رفت، بلکه فروانی کاغذ‌های رنگی در یادداشت‌های شخصی سدهٔ یازدهم بیانگر آن است که احتمالاً از نظر اقتصادی ارزان‌تر از گذشته تولید می‌شد. از طرف دیگر، دربارهٔ ابری‌سازی به سوابقی کهن‌تر اشاره می‌شود. یکی از این اسناد، که نامه‌ای ادیبانه از طغرای مشهدی است، از اصطلاحات این هنر نام می‌برد و از ارسال کاغذ‌‌های ابری ایرانی (قره‌باغ) به هندوستان یاد می‌کند و البته می‌تواند یک عبارت‌پردازی ادبی هم تلقی شود. دو یادداشت دیگر در مورد مواد به‌کاررفته در ساخت کاغذ ابری سخن می‌گویند و یکی از آنها مانند بیشتر متون موجود اصطلاحاتی مربوط به فرهنگ هندوستان دارد. 

history and production of marbled paper; a reassessment

today much research has been carried out on the arts of book, yet some aspects of it have not been studied well. making colored papers, both in their texture and on surface, is a subject matter not dealt with properly in terms of history and production methods. having been propagated in the 9th century ah/ ad 15th century, the production of marbled paper dates back to a period before that time, however centuries later different new methods and techniques appeared. taking a look at the history of using colored paper, particularly the imported types from china in the 9th century ah/ ad 15th century, the present study shows that colored paper was not only applied in fine manuscripts of the 10th century ah/ ad 15th century, but the abundance of such paper used in personal notes of the 11th century ah/ ad 16th century is indicative of the fact that they were probably produced at a cheaper price. incidentally, we witness historical documents relating to marbling technique. one of them is a literary letter by tughrāy mashhadī in which are seen some terms concerning this art as well as the fact of sending persian marbled paper to india. furthermore, two other notes discuss the material used in making marbled paper, one of which with more terms common in indian culture.
