   CFD analysis of mixing element of SSIMM: the effect of inlet velocity toward mixing intensity

چکیده    The aim of this work is to investigate the effect of different inlet velocity and variation of discharge slit position of a standard slit interdigital micro mixer (ssimm) having a micro-channelled corrugated wall of mixing element towards mixing intensity via computational fluid dynamics (cfd). the corrugated wall of the micro channel was simulated using comsol multiphysic 4.2a software. the velocity and concentration in the mixing element obtained from the cfd study were then used to calculate the mixing intensity. the mixing intensity value defines whether a good or poor mixing quality could be obtained for this type of micro mixer. the simulation results showed that a good mixing quality is achieved where mixing intensity is approaching the value of one for low inlet velocity and otherwise approaching zero for high velocity. the simulation also showed that the mixing is completely achieved at discharge slit position beyond 1000 μm. © school of engineering,taylor’s university.
