چکیده

Throughout history, humans have always been concerned about protecting their information and secrets and have been looking for a way to protect them. with the advent of new technology, the old ways of keeping secrets safe were no longer effective. in the new era and with the emergence and spread of the internet and the internet of things (iot) all over the world and the exchange of a large amount of information and data on the internet, humanity needs a new cryptographic approach to face emerging threats. the physically unclonable function (puf) emerged as a lightweight and low-cost cryptographic method. a puf is a hardware security primitive that takes advantage of minor, random differences within chips during manufacturing to provide a hardware security approach specific to each chip. as a result, the puf can be added to the main circuit at a low cost. also, due to the inherent encryption of puf, it will be challenging to manipulate and copy puf. this manuscript presents a complete review of the general concepts, evaluation criteria, characteristics, and classification of pufs. then, we will examine the limitations and strengths of the introduced ro-puf structures. in the following, according to puf evaluation criteria, we compare different ro-puf structures. finally, considering the strengths of current structures, we introduce a research opportunity and a comprehensive proposed structure.

throughout history, humans have always been concerned about protecting their information and secrets and have been looking for a way to protect them. with the advent of new technology, the old ways of keeping secrets safe were no longer effective. in the new era and with the emergence and spread of the internet and the internet of things (iot) all over the world and the exchange of a large amount of information and data on the internet, humanity needs a new cryptographic approach to face emerging threats. the physically unclonable function (puf) emerged as a lightweight and low-cost cryptographic method. a puf is a hardware security primitive that takes advantage of minor, random differences within chips during manufacturing to provide a hardware security approach specific to each chip. as a result, the puf can be added to the main circuit at a low cost. also, due to the inherent encryption of puf, it will be challenging to manipulate and copy puf. this manuscript presents a complete review of the general concepts, evaluation criteria, characteristics, and classification of pufs. then, we will examine the limitations and strengths of the introduced ro-puf structures. in the following, according to puf evaluation criteria, we compare different ro-puf structures. finally, considering the strengths of current structures, we introduce a research opportunity and a comprehensive proposed structure.
