سید حسین العطاس و مسئله روشنفکران

درک سید حسین العطاس از مفهوم «روشنفکر» را چگونه باید فهمید؟ مسئلۀ روشنفکران در جهان مدرن یکی از چالش‌برانگیزترین پرسش‌های علوم انسانی و اجتماعی است. العطاس میان نقش روشنفکران در جوامع در حال توسعه و توسعه‌یافته تمایز قائل است. مفروضات بنیادی نگرش العطاس، به‌عنوان یک اندیشمند پسااستعماری از مالزی، دربارۀ نقش روشنفکران در جوامع در حال توسعه چیست؟ روایت‌های غیراروپامحور زیادی دربارۀ نقش روشنفکران در جهان معاصر وجود دارد.  برای مثال می‌توان به علی شریعتی، جلال آل احمد و ادوارد سعید اشاره کرد. اما تنها اندکی بر نگرش العطاس در ارتباط با آیندۀ روشنفکران مدرن در دنیا و به‌خصوص در جوامع در حال توسعه کار کرده‌اند. به عبارت دیگر، در این مقاله بر مفهوم روشنفکر، آنگونه که العطاس آن را می‌فهمد، متمرکز خواهیم بود و تلاش خواهیم کرد مربوطیت این رویکرد را در بستر امروز جوامع در حال توسعه پیدا کنیم و در این باره که آیا تعامل انتقادی با این رویکرد غیراروپامحور می‌تواند در به‌کارگیری رویکرد العطاس در سطحی کلی و جهانی موثر باشد بحث کنیم؟

how does alatas conceptualize the concept of ’intellectual’? the problem of intellectuals in the modern world is one of the most challenging questions in the context of social sciences and humanities. alatas distinguishes between the role of intellectuals in the developing countries and developed societies. what are the assumptive foundations of alatas’s perspective on the role of intellectuals in developing societies? there are many non-eurocentric narratives on the role of intellectuals (e.g. ali shariati, jalal ale ahmad, edward said and …) in the contemporary world but few have worked upon the perspective conceptualized by syed hussein alatas in relation to the future of intellectuals as a modern species in the world, in general, and in the developing societies, in particular. in other words, in this chapter, we shall work on the concept of intellectual as understood by alatas and try to find out the relevance of his approach in the present contexts of developing societies and also if this non-eurocentric breed could have any impact on the global state of affairs through his/her critical engagements.
