تبیین و بررسی نظریهٔ غایت‌شناختیِ محتوای ذهنی با تاکید بر دیدگاه‌های درتسکی و میلیکان

حیث التفاتی یکی از ویژگی‌های اصلی حالات ذهنی است‌‌ و از همین‌رو‌‌، یکی از مسائل فلسفهٔ ذهن تبیین فیزیکالیستی این ویژگی است. موضوع این مقاله بررسی دو جنبهٔ مرتبط به هم این مسئله، یعنی امکان حیث التفاتی و چگونگی تعیین محتوای ذهنی در نظریهٔ غایت‌شناختی محتواست. بر اساس این نظریه‌‌، تکامل طبیعی ارگانیسم زنده و کارکردهای غایی مبتنی بر آن‌‌، محتوا را متعیّن می‌کند و به کمک آن می‌توان تبیینی طبیعی و فیزیکی از حیث التفاتی و محتوا به‌ دست داد. در این مقاله، پس از بیان مبانی این نظریه (واقع‌گرایی دربارۀ حیث التفاتی‌‌) طبیعی‌گرایی و اصل تکامل طبیعی انواع و _ در گام نخست _ دو تقریر اصلی این نظریه‌‌، یعنی معناشناسی دال درتسکی و معناشناسی مصرف‌کننده میلیکان‌‌ را مطرح کرده و سپس به ارزیابی آن می‌پردازیم. مهم‌ترین اِشکال نظریه، این است که نمی‌تواند محتوا و معنای مفاهیم منطقی، فلسفی و نیز مفاهیم عدمی را تبیین کند و از این‌رو‌‌  _ حتی اگر بتواند در مفاهیمی که ارتباط نزدیکی با امور زیستی دارند، شرایط لازم و کافی تعیین محتوا را مشخص کند ‌‌_ در خصوص مفاهیم پیش‌گفته با مشکل مواجه است و به همین دلیلْ ناتمام به حساب می‌آید.

A Study and Explanation of the Teleological Theory of Mental Content with Emphasis on the Views of Dretske and Millikan

One of the issues of Philosophy of Mind is the intentionality of the mind. The topic of this article is the study of the two related aspects of this issue, i.e. the possibility of intentionality and how mind content is determined in the Teleological Theory of Mental Content. According to this theory, the natural evolution of a living organism and the teleological functions based on this determines mental content and one can present a natural and physical explanation of intentionality and mental content with help from that. In this article, after explaining the foundations of this theory, i.e. realism in regards to intentionality, naturalism and the principle of natural evolution of species, we will first address two main versions of this theory, i.e. Dretske’s Indicator Semantics and Millikan Consumer Semantics and then evaluate them. The most important problem of this theory is that it cannot explain the content and meaning of philosophical and logical concepts nor nonexistence concepts and therefore, it faces issues concerning the above concepts.
