اخلاقی‌ زیستن و بیگانگی؛ نقدی بر تقریر ریلتون از پیامدنگری

یکی از چالش‌های پیشِ روی اخلاق، در دهه‌های اخیر، ادعای عدم سازگاری اخلاق با اموری است که از جملۀ مهمترین عواملِ سازندۀ سعادت انسان‌اند. ادعا شده است که گاه تبعیت از نظریه‌های اخلاقی شخص را با بعضی از امور بسیار ارزشمند زندگی او، از جمله عواطف و تعهدات شخصی‌اش و نیز از دیگر انسان‌ها بیگانه می‌سازد. ریلتون در مقالۀ «بیگانگی، پیامدنگری و اقتضائات اخلاقی بودن» سعی می‌کند که از جانب دیدگاه پیامدنگری به این ایراد پاسخ گوید. او، به این منظور، تقریری از پیامدنگری را، تحت عنوان «پیامدنگری ‌‌سنجیده‌کارانه»، مطرح می‌سازد که در نظر او، از اقتضاء بیگانگی می‌رهد. این مقاله، پس از توضیح تقریر ریلتون از پیامدنگری، به نقد تدبیری می‌پردازد که او از طریقِ طرحِ این تقریر برای حل معضل بیگانگی اندیشیده است و ضمن نشان دادن بعضی تعارضات در دیدگاه پیشنهاد شده، آن را به عنوان نوعی متمایز نمی‌پذیرد. توفیق تقریر مذکور در حلّ مشکل بیگانگی را نیز با مشکلاتی مواجه می‌بیند که به عدول از دیدگاه پیامدنگرانه می‌انجامد.

Morality And Alienation A Criticism of Railton’s Version of Consequentialism

Received: 21/10/2018       |       Accepted: 13/01/2019 In recent decades, one of the challenges facing morality is its alleged conflict with what are among the most important factors of human happiness. It is claimed that adopting moral theories may alienate one from that which makes one’s life worthwhile, such as affections, personal commitments, as well as from other people. In his paper, “Alienation, Consequentialism, and the Demands of Morality”, Railton attempts to answer this objection from a consequentialist point of view. For this purpose, he has formulated a new version of consequentialism, which he calls “sophisticated consequentialism”. This version, he thinks, avoids the necessity of alienation. This paper first provides an explanation of Railton’s formulation of consequentialism and the goes on to criticize the solution he has devised for the problem of alienation by using this formulation and while showing certain incoherencies in the proposed formulation, rejects it as a new version of consequentialism.
