structural equation modeling of suicidal ideation based on victimization and cyberbullying: the mediating role of coping skills

Introduction: the present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of coping skills in the relationship between victimization, cyberbullying, and suicidal ideation in adolescents. this descriptive-correlation study employed structural equation modeling.method: the study method falls under descriptive and correlative research. the statistical population included all the teenagers living in bandar abbas, iran in 2023-2024. 300 of them were selected via the convenience sampling method. we collected data using the beck suicidal ideation questionnaire (bssi), the lazarus and folkman coping skills scale (csq), and the cyberbullying/victim scale (cbveq). the data was analyzed using spss 23 and amos software.results: structural equation modeling showed that coping skills, victimization, and cyberbullying, directly and indirectly, affect suicidal ideation in adolescents. the evaluation of the hypothetical research model using fit indices revealed a good fit between the model and the measurement (cfi = 0.98, nfi = 0.99, rmsea = 0.055). the results of this research align with the dual control model, demonstrating that coping skills influence suicidal thoughts.conclusion: these findings underscore the importance of both the victim and cyberbullying, in addition to an individual's coping skills for suicidal thoughts.
