In the presen t article, the author see ks to defin esustainable !:,'teenway planning along coas tal areasin the north and south of iran based both on thehistoric al heritages of green routes in the countryand international gree nway theory that isconcerned with ameri can and brit ish definitions.for thi s reason, in the hal f first of thi s paper , theprin cip les and concepts of historical persian gree nroutes have been scrutinized and identifi ed andthen, in the second half ofthe paper , according tothe historical and cultura l backgrounds andregional context of these coas ta l areas, an appliedmulti-functional greenway plan for settlements inthe aforeme ntioned reg ions has been proposed.finally, the author concludes that , in the presentcentur y, local authori ties have to pay attentionboth to regional conditions and intern at ional ideasof the same peri od to achieve landscape andenvironm ent al sustai nability. it can be menti onedthat in this article, the author used academicresources and applied an analyzing-describingmethod as a scientific research method. inaddition, the two coastal cities of anza li, on thecas pian sea, and bushehr , on the persian gulf,have been analyzed.
