رویکرد انتقادی به روش کرونه در مقالۀ «مشرکان چگونه امرار معاش می‌کردند؟» با تکیه بر روش بازسازی تاریخی

پاتریشا کرونه، محقق معاصر دانمارکی، در یکی از مقالات خود با عنوان «how did the quranic pagans make a living»، سعی دارد چگونگی امرار معاش مشرکان مکه را در عصر نزول قرآن‌ نشان دهد. او در این مقاله با تکیه بر قرآن کریم، که تنها منبع مطمئن مسلمانان است، آیات مختلف مکی و مدنی مرتبط با سوال اصلی خود را جمع‌آوری می‌کند و در‌نهایت نتیجه می‌گیرد که مشرکان مکه کشاورز، باغدار، دامدار و ماهیگیر بوده‌اند. این مسئله که با شرایط جغرافیایی مکه ناسازگار بوده است، نویسنده را به ارائۀ این نظریه می‌کشاند که مکه در صدر اسلام در مکانی دیگر، غیر از موقعیت کنونی خود قرار داشته است. پژوهش حاضر در رویکردی انتقادی به مقالۀ کرونه، سعی دارد با استفاده از روشی که این نویسنده در پیش گرفته است، یعنی روش «بازسازی تاریخی» و با تکیه بر آیات قرآن، ادعای او را تحلیل و ارزیابی کند. آنچه در‌نهایت حاصل می‌شود، آن است که پاتریشا در بررسی آیات به قرائنی همچون بافت سوره، زمان نزول، مخاطبان آیات و سور توجهی نداشته‌ و همین امر باعث شده است‌ مخاطب‌ همۀ سورۀ مکی را مشرکان مکه در نظر بگیرد که در یک جامعۀ روستایی زندگی می‌کردند.

in one of her articles, patricia crone explored how the pagans of mecca sustained themselves during the period of the quran’s revelation. relying solely on the quran as the authoritative source, she compiled various meccan and madani verses related to her central inquiry and concluded that the polytheists of mecca were engaged in farming, gardening, ranching, and fishing. however, this assertion conflicted with the geographical conditions of mecca, leading crone to propose that the city was originally situated in a location different from its current one.this study critically analyzed and evaluated crone’s claims by employing her own methodology of historical reconstruction, which relied exclusively on quranic verses. it became evident that crone had overlooked significant factors, such as the context of the surah, timing of its revelation, and intended audience of the verses. this oversight had resulted in a generalized perception that all meccan surahs pertained to polytheists living in a rural society.
