In this paper, a fractal photoniccrystal fiber (f-pcf) based on the 1st iterationof koch fractal configuration for opticalcommunication systems is presented. complexstructure of fractal shape is build up throughreplication of a base shape. nowadays, fractalshapes are widely used in antenna topics and itsusage in pcf is investigated in this paper. thepurpose of this research is to compare normalphotonic crystal fibers (n-pcfs) with f-pcfsthrough the simulation and optimizationprocedure based on the finite element method(fem). the effective mode index of thefundamental mode is found for different pcfstructures. in addition, dispersion properties off-pcf are numerically calculated andcompared by n-pcf.
