In the context of conjugatedpolymers, especially those of the poly(phenylenevinylene) (ppv) family, which arepromising candidates as emission material inlight emitting devices such as leds, field effecttransistors and photovoltaic devices, we have, inthe present study, prepared meh-ppv [poly [2-methoxy-5-(2’-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylen-evinylene]of low molecular weight and low polydispersityindex. we discuss the thicknessdependent fluorescence emission from the filmwaveguides fabricated with the above blends.of the two peaks observed in this fluorescencespectrum, the shorter wavelength peak (562nm)is dominant in the range of lower thickness andas thickness is increased the longer wavelengthpeak (600nm) predominates. we also discussthe multimode laser emission from free standingmeh-ppv/polystyrene film waveguides blendswhich show the nature of improvement in lasingbehavior. the gain studies show that freestanding film of meh-ppv blended withpolystyrene can be used as a compact solid statelaser.
