   Giant Goos-Haenchen Shift of a Gaussian Beam Reflected from One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals Containing Left-Handed Lossy Metamaterials

چکیده    We perform a theoreticalinvestigation on the Goos-Haenchen shift (thelateral shift) in one-dimensional photoniccrystals (1DPCs) containing left-handed (LH)metamaterials. The effect was studied by use ofa Gaussian beam. We show that the giantlateral displacement is due to the localization ofthe electromagnetic wave which can be bothpositive and negative depending on theincidence angle of Gaussian beam that can beexcited the forward and backward surfacestates, respectively. Dependence of beam widthon the incidence angle of beam and thickness ofair layer for both backward and forwardsurface states are studied in this paper. We alsofind that the weak lossy in LH layers of 1DPCsmay affect these shifts. These giant negative andpositive lateral shifts are smaller than that ofthe lossless structure.
