A Novel Color Image Compression Method Using Eigenimages

Since the bi rth of multi- spectr al imagi ng techn iques, there has been a tendency to consid er and process th is new type ofda ta as a se t of par all el gray-scale images, ins tead of an ensemble of an n-d reali zat ion . altho ugh, even now, so meresearcher s make the same as sump tion, it is pr oved th at usin g vec tor geometries leads to bett er resu its . in this pa per,first a method is proposed to ex tract the eigen images from a colo r image. then, usi ng the ene rgy co mpaction of theproposed method , a new co lor image compression met hod is proposed an d analyzed . the proposed compressionmeth od, wh ich uses vec tor-based operations, applies a graysca le compression a lgori thm on the cigenimages.experimenta l res ults show that, at the same ban dwidth , the proposed method produce 3 .6 db and 1.9d b enhancement inth e quality, compared to jpeg and jpeg2000, resp ectivel y.
