An example of the impacts of geographical factors on administrative structuring: the case of Afyonkarahisar province [Coǧrafi faktörlerin mülki yapilanma üzerindeki etkilerine bir örnek: Afyonkarahisar i̇li]

Afyonkarahisar,which is located in the inner anatolian swell,is the 12th largest province of turkey. since some territories of the province are situated in different regions,these territories,which differ from other parts of the province in terms of physical geography and anthropogeography,lack territorial integrity. up to now,this feature has influenced the administrative organization in the province. in earlier years of the turkish republic,afyonkarahisar was organized as a province comprising of 5 districts,12 towns and 482 villages. afyonkarahisar province,in which many administrative changes were observed in the republican period,consists of 18 districts,88 town and 392 villages of which population is 697.365 (2008). the administration cannot fulfill tasks including the development of other functions and support them in an administrative structure,which is not in harmony with geographical conditions. although afyonkarahisar is a transition area among several regions,it has failed to attract enough attention due to its geographical structure being widespread.
