The impacts of 1999 Marmara Earthquake on Turkish emergency management concept [17 Aǧustos 1999 Marmara Depreminin Türkiye'deki Kriz Yönetimi Anlayişi Üzerinde Oluşturduǧu Deǧişiklikler]

The marmara earthquake that occurred on 17 august 1999 has been added to the world literature as a natural disaster that had devastating effects for turkish people. although numerous events have been occurring in the universe,we are only interested in those affecting the humanity. this study aims to investigate the 1999 marmara earthquake in terms of emergency management in particular and the turkish public administration in general to better understand its impacts. for this purpose,first,the emergency management concept in emergency situations and natural disasters will be described and overall dimension of 1999 marmara earthquake will be presented. then,a brief information will be provided regarding the structure and the stages of the emergency management following the earthquake. the study will be concluded by identifying the implications of the administrative structure developed after the earthquake on turkish public administration in organizational and functional sense.
