The challenges of being one of the few female supervisors [Birkaç kadin denetçiden biri olmanin zorluklari]

Although in europe and america,numerous studies have been conducted on the reasons why female supervisors are outnumbered by male supervisors and on their professional and private since the 1970s,this subject has never been investigated in turkey. in this context,the purpose of this qualitative study is to identify the problems of female educational (elementary) supervisors. for this purpose,77 female educational (elementary) supervisors employed in 81 cities of turkey were interviewed. this research is a descriptive model. the findings of the survey have indicated that the problems of female supervisors were: supervisorship is a male-dominated occupation,women have more responsibilities (home-work),gender socialization,not being accepted as authority,prejudices against female supervisors,restriction of social life,harassment,top managers' negative attitude for female supervisors' participation in decisionmaking process,women's lack of awareness of their problems and being outnumbered as female supervisors. also in this study it was found that female supervisors experienced gender discrimination,exposed to inequalities and gender biased behaviors because of their gender.
