Europeanization of Turkey [Türkiye'nin avrupalilaşmasi]

Turkey - european union relations date back to 50 years ago. nevertheless,turkey could gain potential candidate status as late as 1999. on 3 october 2005,the parties launched negotiations for full membership. in general sense,europeanization refers to adaptation to european union. there are different theoretical approaches to europeanisation,which can be summed up in two categories: state interrelations and supranationalism. the interstate relations approach argues that states are actors,while supranationalist approach investigates the effects of the european union on its member states. this study attempts to comprehend the changes that turkey experiences during the europeanisation process. the article discusses the impact of the european union on the political,social and institutional structures of turkey and turkey's adaptation to the european union.
