وارثان فکری اروینگ گافمن: بررسی تاثیر اندیشه‌های اجتماعی اروینگ گافمن در نظریه‌پردازی متفکران معاصر جامعه‌شناسی

افکار اجتماعی اروینگ گافمن عمیقاً متفکران معاصر را در حوزه‌های مختلف جامعه‌شناسی و فراتر از آن تحت تاثیر قرار داده است و روشی را شکل می‌دهد که محققان مدرن به مطالعۀ تعامل انسانی و ساختارهای اجتماعی می‌پردازند. گافمن از معاصران خود که بر پدیده‌های اجتماعی کلان تمرکز داشتند جدا شد و به جای آن، جنبه‌های روزمرۀ زندگی اجتماعی را که در آن زمان به‌طور گسترده مطالعه نشده بود و برای پیشرفت شغلی یک جامعه‌شناس مفید تلقی نمی‌شد، بررسی کرد. گافمن علی‌رغم اینکه یک روش‌شناس برجسته یا یک نظریه‌پرداز کلاسیک نیست، به‌طور منحصر به فردی نظریه و روش را باهم ترکیب کرد و بر حوزه‌هایی از جامعه‌شناسی تمرکز کرد که قبلاً بررسی نشده بودند. گافمن از متفکران کلاسیک قبل از خود در جامعه‌شناسی بهره‌های زیادی برد. او با الهام از نظریه‌های گئورگ زیمل علاقۀ خود را به اشکال اجتماعی و نیز فرآیندهای مولکولی زندگی اجتماعی گردآوری کرد. گافمن از امیل دورکیم، مفهوم تشریفات را پذیرفت که از آن برای روشن‌کردن مفهوم خود و بعد اخلاقی در تعاملات زندگی روزمره استفاده کرد. از نظریه‌های جورج هربرت مید، او به نقش مفهوم کنش متقابل نمادین بین افراد علاقه‌مند شد. گافمن همچنین در برداشت از اگزیستانسیالیسم از ماهیت پوچ زندگی مدرن و همچنین از رفتارشناسی حیوانات (به‌ویژه ایدۀ توسعۀ قلمروهای شخصی) ایده‌های زیادی گرفت. از سوی دیگر، نظریه‌های گافمن به‌طور خاص بر بسیاری از متفکران اجتماعی در سراسر جهان تاثیر گذاشت. این مقاله با روش تحقیق کتابخانه‌ای به بررسی تاثیر اندیشه‌های جامعه‌شناختی ایروینگ گافمن بر متفکران مختلف معاصر می‌پردازد. از جمله هارولد گارفینکل (اتنومتدولوژی)، آنتونی گیدنز(امنیت هستی‌شناختی)، یورگن هابرماس (نظریۀ کنش ارتباطی)، نیکلاس لومان (پیچیدگی‌های ارتباطات، اعتماد و نظم اجتماعی)، پیر بوردیو (مطالعات جنسیتی، پیوندهای خرد کلان و پویایی خشونت نمادین)، جامعه‌شناسی عواطف (پویایی قدرت، جنبه‌های اقتصادی و فرآیندهای درونی مدیریت احساسات)، و همچنین طیف وسیعی از دیگر متفکران در حوزه‌های مختلف، که اندیشه‌های گافمن بر آنها تاثیرگذار بوده است.

erving goffman’s intellectual heirs: a survey of the impact of erving goffman’s social thoughts on theorization of contemporary sociological thinkers

erving goffman’s social thoughts have profoundly influenced contemporary thinkers across various domains of sociology and beyond, shaping the way modern scholars approach the study of human interaction and social structures. goffman broke away from his contemporaries who focused on macro social phenomena and explored the day-to-day aspects of social life that were not widely studied at the time and were not deemed conducive to  a sociologist’s career advancement. though not a prominent methodologist or a traditional theorist, goffman uniquely combined theory and method, focusing on previously unexplored areas of sociology. goffman benefited from his preceding classical thinkers in sociology. inspired by the theories of georg simmel, he concentrated on social forms as well as the molecular processes of social life. goffman adopted emile durkheim’s concept of ritual, which he used to clarify the concept of ego and the moral dimension in everyday life interactions. the theories of george herbert mead kindled his interest in symbolic interrelationships between people. goffman also borrowed many ideas from existentialism’s take on the absurd nature of modern life, as well as from animal behaviorism (especially the idea of developing personal territories). on the other hand, goffman’s theories particularly influenced many social thinkers worldwide. this paper seeks to investigate the impact of erving goffman’s sociological thoughts on various contemporary thinkers using the library research method. including harold garfinkel (ethnomethodology), anthony giddens (ontological security), jürgen habermas (communicative action theory), nicolas lohmann (complexities of communication, trust and social order), pierre bourdieu (gender studies, micro-macro links and the dynamics of symbolic violence), sociology of emotions (power dynamics, economic aspects, and internal processes of emotion management), as well as a wide range of thinkers in diverse fields who have been inspired by goffman’s thoughts.
