Growth Characteristics of Chub, Squalius cephalus (L., 1758) Population from Hafik Lake (Sivas)

In this study, the age, sex, length and weight distributions, growth in length and weight, condition factor and smallest prey size of chub from hafik lake have been determined. 242 specimens were analyzed between april and november 2009. the age of s. cephalus samples were found to range between i-viii; in addition, 153 of them were female and 89 were male. iv age group was dominant in the stock. the fork lengths were ranged between 114 mm and 332 mm, body weights were ranged between 22.5 g and 550.3 g. izometric growth correlations were constituted as w= 0.00002 l^2.9734 for female and w= 0.00002 l^2.9711 for male. condition factors of the specimens investigated were calculated between 0.49 and 2.32. mean condition values of females in i, ii, iv and v ages were higher than values of males. intensity of fishing activity on the population was high level. it is considered that the fish over iv age should be captured in order to sustain and protect the stock, and the smallest prey size based on 220 mm fork length.
