Semantic collocations in the Holy Quran and their english translations

Collocations are regular co-occurrences of words. geffing familiar withcollocations like siriit mustaqem (~/.b~) and yawm den (~.jl~~) is a necessityfor english translators of the holy qur'an. in this study, nine well-known englishtranslations ofthe holy qur'an are analyzed with respect to semantic collocations.frequent semantic collocations are extracted from the qur'an and thecomponential analysis reveals the original concepts enclosed within samplecollocations. the results indicate that some new meaning components areintroduced into the contexts as collocational clashes. therefore semanticcollocations of the holy qur'an may not be translated into otherlanguages wordby-word. a semantic collocation can be considered as a unitoftranslation.in this study, at first, the conceptof collocation and its role in the translation of theholy qu'an is explained, and then five kinds of collocations are discussed. therelevant tables showing the total number and frequencies of different kinds ofcollocations are alsopresented.
