یک قرن با رائو

نوشته حاضر ترجمه مقاله ای در مجله سیگنیفیکنس سری 17 شماره 4 در سال 2020 با عنوان قرن سی، آر، رائو است که با مشارکت برادلی افرون، ، شونایچی آماری، دونالد بی. روبین، آرنی اس. آر. سرینیواسا رائو و دیوید آر. کاکس تهیه شده است. لذا، نمی توان این نوشته را مقاله خطاب کرد. بلکه ترجمه ای است که برای ادای دین به یک قرن فعالیت پروفسور رائو تهیه شده تا فارسی زبانانی که به طریقی با آمار در ارتباط هستند از نقش ارزنده این استاد در آمار آگاه شوند. البته، افرادی که دوره کارشناسی آمار را گذرانده اند حداقل با دو عنوان معروف نامساوی کرامر-رائو و قضیه رائو-بلکول که هر دو حاوی اسم رائو هستند، خاطراتی دارند. لذا، اشاره به نقش بی بدیل ایشان در آمار و دانستن درباره این شخصیت بزرگ از زبان چند محقق برجسته آماری -که خود نیز تاثیر شگرفی در پیشبرد علم آمار داشتند- خالی از لطف نیست. به نظر نگارنده این مقاله، فعالیت های مثمر ثمر رائو که بخشی از آن ها در این نوشتار آمده است می تواند الگویی برای افرادی باشد که در وادی آمار قدم می گذارند و قصد پیروی از مسیر زندگی علمی و اجتماعی پروفسور رائو را دارند

A Century with Rao

The current article is a translation of a paper published in Significance journal, 2020, Vol. 17, No. 4 captioned as ldquo;C.R. Rao rsquo;s lrm;Centurychr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))chr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))) lrm;, which has been scripted as a perception of an appreciation note by involvements of Bradley Efron, Shunichi Amari, Donald B. Rubin, Arni S. R. Srinivasa Rao and David R. Cox. Therefore, it is not possible to address this manuscript as a scientific paper, which is regularly accepted among the researchers. Evidently, the proposed translated article is prepared with the focus on appreciating professor Rao rsquo;s a century contribution in statistics. With this intention, Persian speakers, i.e., those who are somehow associated with statistics, could become aware of professor Rao rsquo;s invaluable role in spreading the statistics around the world. Absolutely, individuals that have achieved a bachelor rsquo;s degree in statistics, are familiar with at least two wellknown titles: ldquo;CramerRao rsquo;s inequalitychr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))chr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))) and ldquo;RaoBlackwell theoremchr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39')))chr(chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))39chr(chr('39')39chr('39'))), possessing Rao rsquo;s designation in both titles. Needless to say, that mentioning his remarkable role in statistics and learning more about his outstanding character by some renowned statisticians, who have also made remarkable impacts on statistics, is a must. In accordance with the author of this paper, advantageous activities of Rao, some of which have come to this paper, can be considered as a model for those who enter in various fields of statistics and intend to follow Rao rsquo;s scientific and social life.
